Nissan Maxima Safety Ratings

NISSAN MAXIMA SAFETY RATINGS

Getting behind the wheel of a 2021 Nissan Maxima is an enticing prospect for many, not least because of its powerful V6 engine and high-end, luxury-level design. However, for many drivers near Avon, Plainfield, and Danville, IN, the Nissan Maxima safety ratings are the determining factor.

It's important to feel safe behind the wheel, and doing your research into any car you purchase is one way to help you feel safe. Delve deeper into the Maxima safety scores and features, so you can confirm this large car's top-tier place when it comes to security on the road!

2021 NISSAN MAXIMA SAFETY RATINGS

NISSAN MAXIMA SAFETY RATINGSThe 2021 Maxima scored very well on crash tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2021 Nissan Maxima earned the highest rating of Good on just about all the IIHS tests, helping it win the 2021 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award.

The 2021 Maxima also earned a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA. This includes 5-star ratings for frontal crash, side crash, and rollover tests that were done by the organization. These tests simulate everything from a head-on crash to a vehicle slammed into the side of your car, so you rest assured that the Nissan Maxima is built and tested for safety in a wide variety of accident situations.

You might be wondering what exactly the Maxima was tested on to earn this rating. In the following sections, we’ll cover several of the key categories that were explored and ultimately have led the Maxima to become such a safe vehicle.

DRIVER-ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR SAFETY

Aiding you in your quest for safe driving is the Nissan Maxima's driver-assistive technology. One of the offered standard safety features includes a RearView Monitor to help you confirm what's happening behind you when you need to back up.

You'll also get an Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking to help alert you to possible oncoming frontal crashes and help apply the brakes to avoid or reduce the speed of impact. The Automatic Emergency Braking system also comes standard with Pedestrian Detection. This feature can effectively detect if pedestrians have entered the area in front of your vehicle and stop you in your tracks.

However, this is only the beginning of the Maxima’s safety features. The optional Intelligent Around View® Monitor gives you a 360° view of your car's surroundings, making it easier for you to parallel park, avoid scuffing your wheels on curbs, and back up safely. Front and rear parking sensors only sweeten the deal, alerting you to nearby obstacles as you're trying to navigate the parking lot.

There are quite a few additional driver-assistive features. A customer favorite is the Intelligent Driver Alertness feature. This intuitive system can detect driving behavior that indicates the driver could be either tired or distracted behind the wheel. If it senses a driver’s fatigue, this feature will then prompt a message encouraging the driver to take a break from the road ahead.

The Nissan Maxima offers even more driver-assistive technology, as well. They include:

  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Blind Spot Warning

DRIVER-ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR CONVENIENCE

NISSAN MAXIMA SAFETY RATINGSWhile your Maxima’s driver assistive features create a safe experience on the go, they can also make your drive much easier. For example, the Traffic Sign Recognition system. As its name suggests, this system monitors the road ahead for traffic signs and then alerts you so you’re informed. You can drive confidently knowing that this handy feature will keep you updated on speed limits and other important signs on your drives!

Additionally, the Maxima comes standard with High Beam Assist. This system is the perfect companion for nighttime drives, blending your need to see with the safety of other drivers. Using sensors, this feature can detect oncoming traffic when it’s present and turn your high beams on and off accordingly.

There is one other driver-assistive feature that will enhance the convenience of your drive: the available Intelligent Cruise Control. Like traditional cruise control, this system will allow you to set a desired cruising speed. However, it will also monitor the distance between your Nissan and the vehicle in front of you, autonomously adjusting your driving speed.

This will expand the traditional applications of cruise control, allowing you to use it in crowded downtown settings and while you’re cruising the open highways.

MORE ACTIVE SAFETY FEATURES

The 2021 Maxima has even more active safety systems running behind the scenes to make your drive as secure as possible. Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS) will monitor the driving conditions, as well as your brake and steering input. It can then jump in to keep wheels from slipping and correct understeering or oversteering. Additionally, this feature will help you stay in contact with the road, which is useful during those snowy Indiana winters.

Avoiding blowouts on the road is an ever-present safety concern, but it's made much easier with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). When one or more of your tires become critically underinflated, the system will sense it. Then, a dashboard warning light will illuminate, reminding you to put more air in your tires.

MAXIMA SAFETY FEATURES

The Maxima’s safety suite would not be complete if not for its inclusion of passive safety features. Under this umbrella, you will find some automotive safety essentials like airbags, seat belts, and LATCH systems.

The Maxima was also designed with an energy-absorbing steering column. In the event of a collision, this will work to absorb some of the force and keep it from reaching the interior passengers. Similarly, the advanced Zone Body construction with front and rear crumple zones and the hood-buckling creases will work to re-direct force should an accident occur.

While these don’t play as active a role as some of the preceding technology features, they are equally important to your safety on the go.
